Debra McVicker, mezzo-soprano, is in demand for her portrayals of such disparate characters as La Zia Principessa in Suor Angelica (Puccini) and Mrs. Partlett in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Sorcerer. She recently performed Marcellina in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro with Mission City Opera in Santa Clara, California, and inhabited the coveted role of Julia Child in Hoiby's Bon Appétit for WCTE-TV in Cookeville, Tennessee. As a classically trained chef, she is uniquely qualified for that role.
Debra has also garnered praise for her performances with Opera Colorado, Central City Opera, Opera Theatre of the Rockies, Loveland Opera Theatre and the Empire Lyric Players.
Ms. McVicker is sought after for roles such as the Mother in Hänsel und Gretel (Humperdinck), Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte (Mozart), the Duchess of Plaza Toro in The Gondoliers (Gilbert and Sullivan), Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors (Menotti) and Frugola in Il Tabarro (Puccini).
She has performed the roles of Third Lady, Carmen and Augusta Tabor in The Ballad of Baby Doe in Italy as part of the Amalfi Coast Music Festival. Regionally, she has been a featured soloist with the Denver Pops Orchestra, Musica Sacra, the Confluence String Quartet and the Greeley Chamber Orchestra.
